The value of CICM membership and beyond

If you are reading this then I will assume that you work in or have an interest in credit management as a profession. Maybe you are a member, or you have picked this magazine up at work. So if I asked you ‘What does the CICM, your professional
body, do for you,’ what would you say?

Having worked in professional bodies for a good 15 years, I am constantly reminded that most people do not know what the real value of a professional body is or could be. Answering ‘I work for a professional body’ to the ‘And what do you do?’ question in a work or social situation usually leads to a strange look of horror on the face of the asker that says ‘Ooh, I was hoping for an answer I could talk about and I have no idea what to say next.’
