Navigating the court processes with Carl Jones of MD Law – looking at the pre-action protocols for debt claims and how they may differ for corporate and individual debtors, tips and pitfalls to avoid in the small claims court, and also how to prepare a statutory demand and winding up or bankruptcy petition.
Financial analysis with Darren Myers of PwC LLP – looking at the early warning signs of a company becoming distressed and what you should be looking for. We’ll examine the accounts of some companies that ultimately entered into a formal insolvency procedure.
Cyber Escape Room with the Economic Crime Unit of South Yorkshire Police – work together to see if you can beat the cyber criminals and an update on the latest cyber-crime and fraud trends.

Partner and Solicitor-Advocate , MD Law
Carl is a Partner and Solicitor-Advocate at MD Law in Sheffield. Carl graduated in Law from the University of Cambridge in 2010 and trained at the Sheffield office of international law firm, DLA Piper, before qualifying as a Solicitor in 2013. Carl specialises in acting for Insolvency Practitioners and other corporate and individual clients in all manner of litigious matters. Carl was appointed as a Deputy District Judge in May 2020 sitting on the North- Eastern Circuit and is authorised to sit in the Business and Property Courts to hear specialist cases. Carl was also appointed as a Recorder (park-time Circuit Judge) in May 2023 and sits in Civil jurisdiction.

Darren is a Manager within the National Creditor Markets Team at PricewaterhouseCoopers and is based in Leeds. Darren started his career at PwC in 1998 as an insolvency case administrator before moving to Jacksons Jolliffe Cork in November 2000 and then returning to PwC in 2002. With over 26 years’ experience working within the insolvency sector, Darren specialises in complex and investigative bankruptcies and liquidations and in supporting unsecured creditors by working day to day with Credit Insurers and a portfolio of client Financial Directors and Credit Controllers.
