CICM East of England Branch – Annual General Meeting with Insolvency and CICM HQ Update (2CPD) (REPORT)

6 February

Annual General Meeting with Insolvency and CICM HQ Update

The event at FRP Advisory LLP in Brentwood opened with Branch member and FRP Partner Paul Atkinson’s insolvency update, covering the increase in insolvencies, and the sectors affected most (retail, restaurants, construction, and care homes); the inability of business to plan with the uncertainty of Brexit; GDPR; and potential changes to HMRC’s preferential creditors’ status. Paul’s talk stimulated much discussion.
Branch member Pete Whitmore gave an update on his work as Regional Representative and CICM Chairman, covering CICM’s new senior management team, work with the Government, changes to the operation of the Advisory Council and the new Fellows of the Future initiative. He congratulated the Branch Committee for their activities and enthusiasm.

East of England Chair Richard Brown reported on another good year, and on the first events in Cambridge and Norwich across the wider geographically expanded branch.

The Branch’s major conference Deal or No Deal, held in London in November, had not been as well attended as some but members attending from an amazing eight CICM Branches gave the best ever feedback on the venue, content and speakers. He thanked Goodman Masson for hosting and sponsoring, Advanced Collection Systems for their charity donation to GOSH and Cforia for sponsoring the business card draw.

Denise Bassingthwaighte’s Treasurer’s report advised a healthy bank balance despite additional costs of travelling across the Branch’s seven counties.

An eleven strong Branch Committee was elected – the existing nine plus Ron Bidwell of JLL and Andrew Martin of Hays. Atul Vadher took over as Chair from Richard Brown  who became Vice Chair. Pete Whitmore thanked Richard for all that he had done as Chair over many years.

Carol Baker gave an update on, and sought views on, possible events and locations in 2019.

The Chair closed a stimulating and enjoyable evening by thanking FRP Advisory for kindly hosting the evening and for their generous hospitality.
