CICM West of Scotland Branch – Presentation and Networking Event (4 CPD hours)

19 May

The West of Scotland Branch, Spring/Summer event was held on 19 May in the prestigious Blythswood Hotel in Glasgow.

The event opened with an overview of neural linguistic programming (NLP) presented by Linda Cameron of Inspire for Impact.   This, of course required some audience participation, which is not only a great ice-breaker, but clearly demonstrates the value as a management tool.

Duly enlightened, it was time for our next speaker the irrepressible David Ancliffe who gave an up date on the various CICM education options available to potential students and a brief up date on the progress of the current learners within the branch.

Our next speaker, Gordon McIntyre Kemp, from Business for Scotland delivered a, factual well balanced and thought provoking presentation on the “Brexit” issue.  The information delivered certainly debunked many of the myths circulated in the media at present and raised some interesting questions in the room.

After all the talk of Brexit it was time for tea and after some refreshments before Bryan Jackson of  Johnson Carmichael who takes his job very seriously, but not himself,  gave a light-hearted insight into the unique challenges faced  by the accountants in the administration of a football club, in this instance Heart of Midlothian.

Last but not least Mandi Moore (Wellness Coach) reminded us all the importance of a healthy work life balance and that we should make good food choices to ensure that we have “ fuel for fitness” to deal with busy lives and demanding careers.

Speaking of food it was time to draw the evening to a close with some of The Blythswood’s finest canapés, drinks and an opportunity to network and discuss what had been a varied and interesting day.

Finally, the Branch committee would like to extend our thanks to the members and guests in attendance and of course our guest speakers for their continued support of the Branch.
