How to write a CV webinar report East of England branch

This well attended webinar on 15th June, gave advice and guidance on all aspects of CV writing.

In this well attended webinar on 15th June Andy Jarman, Senior recruitment manager of CICM's premium corporate partner Hays, and a CICM East of England branch committee member, gave advice and guidance on all aspects of CV writing.

Whilst stressing that there was no such thing as a perfect CV, in just 30 minutes Andy covered the best way to structure your CV, it's format, what to include in your personal statement, your employment history - how far back, in what level of detail; and what to put first, the need for company names, job titles, locations, and employment dates with months and years - the best way to format achievements, quantifying them with numbers, figures, volumes, savings, outcomes etc;

He gave guidance about what potential employers are looking for in a CV including the "do's and "dont's, the amount of contact details and geographic location to include, whether or not to use pictures or boxes, .which email address to use - possibly even creating a unique one for your job search. Andy emphasised the need to be able to back up everything you say. and ensure that your CV looks tailor made for the job being applied for. It must not look like it has been created using AI, although he explained that AI could help in the preparation but why it should be used with caution.

There was advice on how to make your CV stand out, which type of verbs to use, avoiding clichés and the impotence of printing it out, checking that the pagination worked and carefully ensuring that here were no mistakes. Claiming to have great attention to detail when sending in a CV with spelling mistakes would not impress!

The need for a covering letter was stressed and advice given on how to incorporate it into your CV if applying online. Andy emphasised that your CV should be a living, working document
