Value of Qualifications
For over 85 years, the Chartered Institute of Credit Management has been dedicated to enhancing credit management and debt collections professionals.
In one of many ways the Institute achieves this, is through the globally recognised, Ofqual regulated qualifications.
In this blog, we’ll illustrate the benefits beyond the qualification itself.
Change a career, change a life
Many who achieve a CICM qualification come from all different aspects of life. Some are just starting their careers from a young age; others choose the career after years of working in another industry – and most fall into a profession that they later come to love.
CICM qualifications have been lifechanging for students that are both young and mature.
Rebecca Parsons, on an episode of the community voice podcast, mentioned the challenge she faced with taking on the apprenticeship as a “mature” student, but it was all made worth it when she realised the importance of displaying her hard work and dedication to her 11-year-old son. She saw taking the qualification as important for her and her family.
Imposter Syndrome
As a career that many people accidentally fall into, our profession tends to be filled with capable people who often grapple with feelings of imposter syndrome.
Decision-making is second-guessed and innovative approaches may be shut down as “silly ideas” before they come into fruition or brought forward to managers.
On another episode of the community voice, Glen Bullivant FCICM, a member for over 50 years of the Chartered Institute of Credit Management mentions the importance of apprenticeships, reinforcing the value of qualifications and the detrimental effects on an individual’s confidence in their job role.
